CORVERA AIRPORT DUE TO OPEN IN APRIL 2012

Jet 2 will be moving all flights to Corvera airport in November 2012. Jet 2 currently fly to San Javier airport Murcia with flights arriving from Belfast, Blackpool, East Midlands, Leeds Bradford, Manchester, Newcastle and Edinburgh.

Corvera International Airport is approximately 2km outside the town of Corvera in the Murcia region and 19km inland from San Javier airport Murcia.

Directions to Corvera airport: Traveling South on the AP7, leave at Junction 782 heading for Murcia on the C-3319 and the airport will be sign posted.

With all the glitz of a hollywood premier the Tour de Spain converged on Cabo Roig. Stage 2 of the Vuelta a Espana left Benidorm at 1pm on Sunday afternoon for the 176 km gruelling ride to finish the second stage in Cabo Roig. Crowds started to line the route on the N332 in Cabo Roig in antisipation of the on coming cyclists. Security was very tight along with route and especially around the finishing podium.

The atmosphere was electric when the police outriders that were leading the chasing pack of cyclists came into view.

Seconds later we had a glimpse of the chasing pack heading towards us at an incredible speed. Within seconds they were upon us, with an unbelievable mixture of brilliant colours and the flashing of polished chrome, they passed us at break neck speed.

 As fast as the pack arrived, it disappeared into the distance, with the crowds that lined the streets cheering and clapping. Shortly after came the enthusiastic and passionate back markers, determined to finish the course.

From the time it took us from our vantage point on the N332 to walk back to the finishing line, which was positioned opposite the Farmacia in Cabo Roig. The cyclists had completed the final 5 km and passed the finishing line.

The winner of Stage 2 was Christopher Sutton of Australia riding for the Sky Team. After an amazing 500 yard sprint to the finsih line, Sutton put Vicente Reynes Mimo of Spain in second place.

Crowds lined the streets as a convoy of Classsic Cars and Harley Davidson motorcycles got the proceedings underway with a lap of the intended route and on their return the Torrevieja Pipes and Drums burst into music and led the procession.

The pipes and drums were followed by the lady Majoress, Monica Lorente together with the chairman of the committee Brendan Gormonly and Brian Keirnan who is also a member of the committee. Councillor Jerry Lundy from Sligo was also present with other local civic dignitaries.

The rest of the parade was made up of all the local bars and restaurants who had contributed and many other local businessess. Brendan would like to take this opportunity to thank Brian Keirnan, the 3 Mary´s and everyone involved in making this St Patrick´s Day Parade the great success it has been.

Cardmania, the one stop card and party shop in the upper level of the Los Dolses commercial centre, Villamartin is now under new ownership.

Paul and Sue bought the business at the end of 2010 and quickly starting making changes, which include a whole range of new fixtures and fittings with more modern shelving, cabinets and display units.

They have also replaced old stock and introduced many new and exciting lines, which greatly extends the customers choice as well as the excellent range of stock Paul also has many pre-read books on display outside the shop.

Yes, the secret is out. After 2 years of rumours, specualation and gossip, full details have been released regarding the construction site at Via Park I & II near to the AP7 toll station in La Zenia, South Costa Blanca.

The main contractor is a company called Immochan who have been the main contractors on several large projects in the South Costa Blanca area. Dos Mares shopping mall in San Javier and the Habineras shopping mall in Torrevieja to name but two.

The name for this new commercial shopping centre will be Zenia Boulevard and will cover approximately 175.000 square meters. This vast area is already under construction with some car parks and access roads already completed. There will also be underground parking which will equate to approximately 5,000 parking spaces.

The supermarket giant Alcampo will have approximately 14.000 square meters for a Hypermarket. 42.000 square meters have been allocated for 150 seperate shops which will include Zara, Pull & Bear along with C&A to name but a few. The site will also include the largest Primark in Europe. Leroy Merlin DIY have been allocated 9.000 square meters and Decathlon Sports and Outdoor persuits have been allocated 5.000 square meters.

Along with the named shops there will also be a large Food Court, a multi screen Cinema as well as a Bowling Alley.

The project is due for completion in November 2012 and with the completion of this project the effects on the Playa Flamenca and South Costa Blanca area will be immence, offering a much needed breath of fresh air to the failing property market and a lifeline to many other small businesses in the surrounding areas and creating approximately 1,800 jobs within the shopping complex.

The wind was much stronger than we had originally anticipated and as we followed the winding path along the seafront, at times we found ourselves taking one pace forward and two paces back but undaunted we pressed on and one or two other people had the same idea as ourselves, with the odd Buenos Dias and Guten Morgen, the day was once again starting to have a very cosmopolitan feel to it. We were hoping that the strong winds and low temperatures would not deter the annual  Christmas Day Santa´s on the beach day at La Zenia. The closer we got to La Zenia, the more people we saw dorning the customary Santa hat, dog walkers and strollers alike. We arrived at La Zenia beach around about 10.45 and found one or two groups of people dressed in full Santa Claus regalia, assembling barbacue´s and their ranks were swelling by the minute.

By 11.15 the beach was in full party mode, with a Brass Band playing Christmas carols and anyone who wanted to sing was joining in. The  wine and beer were flowing well and the smell of barbacue filled the air. According to local knowledge, this idea was started by the brits and has been adopted by our European neighbours and this brings all nationality´s together on  Christmas Day. At the risk of wishing our lives away, roll on Christmas 2011, La Zenia beach here we come, with the three b´s - beer, beef and barby…  Adios, Goodbye und Aufwiedersehen.

The South Costa Blanca beaches are some of the best in Spain. They have beautiful fine sand and a flat and even landscape.

These beaches are blue flag standard. At blue flag beaches, there are certain services available. They include: toilets, restaurants, facilities for disabled, clean sand and water and most important, a lifeguard service. You can also find climbing frames and child play areas and beach volley ball nets.

The temperature at the beach can be up to 40.c in the height of the season. At the beach is where the sun´s rays are at it´s strongest, so it is vital to protect your skin, head and eyes from UV Rays and sunburns. You will need lots of water and soft drinks as dehydration is also a risk.

Always pay good attention to the safety flags on display. Green means - calm weather and calm waves. Yellow means - stronger waves and wind and to take caution. They do advise not to swim under yellow flags. Red means - strong winds, high waves and strong under currents. It is forbidden to swim when a red flag is flying and you may be arrested by the police and fined. The lifeguards are very helpful and will provide you with lots of information.

Harbour at Cabo Roig

The range and quality of food is excellent, with the use of fresh vegetables, meats and fish. The staff speak several languages and are only to keen to help the customers, with their friendly table manner.
