St Patrick´s Day Parade in Cabo Roig
A St Patrick´s Day Parade was held in Cabo Roig for the first time and was an amazing success. Many local bars, restaurants and other local businessess answered the call when Brendan Gormonly, owner of the Slievenamon Irish Pub, Cabo Roig suggested a St Patrick´s Day parade. Permission was granted by Playa Flamenca town hall after a good case was presented and a committee was then formed. The route that was agreed on, was to commence at the junction of calle agua/calle mar outside the diamant blue apartments and proceed towards the medical centre and then right down the service road known locally as the Cabo Roig strip, then turning right at the Bushwacka and finishing back at the diamant blue.
Crowds lined the streets as a convoy of Classsic Cars and Harley Davidson motorcycles got the proceedings underway with a lap of the intended route and on their return the Torrevieja Pipes and Drums burst into music and led the procession.
The pipes and drums were followed by the lady Majoress, Monica Lorente together with the chairman of the committee Brendan Gormonly and Brian Keirnan who is also a member of the committee. Councillor Jerry Lundy from Sligo was also present with other local civic dignitaries.
The rest of the parade was made up of all the local bars and restaurants who had contributed and many other local businessess. Brendan would like to take this opportunity to thank Brian Keirnan, the 3 Mary´s and everyone involved in making this St Patrick´s Day Parade the great success it has been.
